looking for any technical tips on where to find out the file formats of Mapsource data.
Obviously shonkymaps and
Contours Australia have worked it out,
so just wondering if i could bluge off others prior work for this,
ie its publically available,
or one must do the hard work and figure out how to decode........

And I guess there is some tricks to how shonkymaps etc install,
and it comes up on Mapsource.............

just thinking about maybe doing something..........

I still like to do it the hard way. This is the easy way Mapwel (http://www.mapwel.biz/). Played around with for 5min a while back and seems to work well.

wasn't looking for a program, unless theres source code, haha
besides I need it for linux not windoz.

bit more searching and I found this
http://sourceforge.net/projects/garmin-img

haven't yet looked in detail, but might be a good lead ay?

so is this maybe where shonkymaps etc etc got info for garmin IMG format?

Have a look at the manual for cGPSMapper, it should be very helpful. cGPSMapper is the software that converts Polish Format (MP) into IMG files for Garmin and mapsource.
