From time to time I am required to prepare plans of rural properties for landowners who wish to define strategies for their future rural activities - crop planting, fencing, weed spraying etc.

To date I use a surveying technique called "plane tabling" which allows me to prepare such plans to an adequate accuracy.

However, I was travelling with a friend who had a Tom Tom fitted to his car and I immediately recognised tghe benefit of GPS as a much quicker method, but on making some quick enquiries I could see that I should speak to some expert for advise and in doing so came accross your forum.

Hi,
You didn't really specify the specific features you're after,
but I guess you want area measurement and distance measurement.

The latter is available in just about any GPS, and the former is a feature of many.

Maybe a Garmin Legend handheld with greyscale screen if that's all you need?
Not very clear for displaying maps if you're in a car,
but you can set it up with a big digits display for moving around on foot.
