Hi Guys, just bought this NavLink GPS from eBay with the anticipation that it will serve two purposes to me - GPS

Navigation of course and play music via FM transmitter to my Car's audio system, But to my surprise this device does not deliver what it claims !!

GPS navigation is fine and i love the interface - very easy to use, although i've had few scenarios where screen fail

to refresh/voice instruction became choppy (probably because of too many voice alerts being fired at the same

time). Overall GPS is ok.

The real problem is with with running GPS "alongwith" songs being broadcasted on FM. If you Run GPS with music
broadcasting on FM - GPS screen becomes very sluggish and screen alomst freezes and navigation is impossible!!

Seems like the platform (Hardware) is not upto it - it can not do both the tasks in parallel.

Interestingly you can play music and simulate route/flyto route without problem. It is when the actual GPS

coordinate recalculation kicks in (ie GPS unit really moving) you have this stuttering problem.

I tried removing most of alerts/POI display/changing 3D view angle to mininise CPU utilisation but still no avail.

In morning today i tried another SD card since i had suspicion that the SD card which came alongwith it may be

slower causing CPU to go into wait state or something - shall publish results soon.

Overall not too impressed with this purchase - i had purchased a 8 GB card alongwith this GPS to store my music on

that - looks like SD card is going back to eBay :-(

I also have reason to believe that if somehow we can disable the spectrum ****yser in audio player

that should cut quite a bit of CPU utilisation on that device.

Has anyone out there ever successfully tried running GPS with FM playing on NavLink? Please share your experience...

Cheers,

Michael

Not used one, sorry, so I am no help.
Your post confirms my preference for stand alone gadgets.
ie a GPS for navigation, & a separate CD player for music.

That is why I have both a printer & a scanner for my PC not a combo unit.

According to NavLink, both the GM4306 and GM7003 only support SD cards up to 4Gb. Interesting that it should read an 8Gb card.

Ditto on the dedicated devices - too much software on one thing is only asking for trouble and/or poor performance.

I've trimmed down my Mio to essentials (Navman and OziCE) - runs just fine. It's the same chip as the NavLink, if my memory is correct.

That is the interesting bit. I dot think that i've got a proper NavLink GPS. As i'm slowly realising that it is a cheap chinese copy of NavLink! What system info i could get from this GPS was -

RomVersion : 7DA82C.YF.F.11.7
Software Version : Custom Information
OEM Info : Custom Info
Platform ID : 5946504E44383243

Does that give you any info as what is the platform and OS?

Interesting. I wonder if we have the same PND. My sys info is:

ROM Version : 7DA82C.YF.F.2.26
Software version : V3.0.12.8
OEM Info : Custom Information
Platform ID : 5946504E44383243
Device ID : 2D8E8025010007AC

Bought on eb*y & received it 3 days ago from seller skypemen. You the same ?

I don't know what is the model no/manufacturer of my PND. The seller seems reluctant to tell me.

There is a patch for FM transmitters from dealextreme. Try it maybe it will fix your problem.

I bought Navlink from ebay when I got it sound didnt work. Sent it back and they were suppose to replace it but sent same unit back to me sound worked for one day so have now put in a dispute through paypal, as far I can see they are a load of rubbish. suppose to take music & photoes, manual doesn't explain how to do that. on ebay tell you retail at $529 I think they should be giving them away

I tried the update on dealextreme site and now after update my PND shows

ROM Version : 7DA82C.YF.F.2.26
Software version : V3.0.12.8

Before this upgrade my ROM version was
RomVersion : 7DA82C.YF.F.11.7

Hence i'm wondering if i've upgraded or downgraded?? :-?

Also before uprgade i used to see overall slow performance now it throws an error "Low memory" while running GPS and FM playing together. Hence my problem is still not solved..

PS - i followed instruction from this site http://tr.im/dxgps
