Hi Guys,
I just bought a oregon 200 for trail riding (dirtbikes) i have shonky maps , T4A and contours australia, when i put them on the gps i put them on the internal memory buy accadent as i thought i got an sd card with it when i bought it from the online shop here. So.. i got a sd card put the maps on there and all was set to go but i didnt take the maps off the internal memory.
On the weekend i went to the Flinders Ranges for a 2 day ride, i logged day1 no probs but when i went to save the second day via track manager it woulnt come up on my list of tracks (like the first day did) i tryed a few times, and after you save it it says do you want to clear tracks i was putting no as i didnt want to loose it just incase it hadnt saved well in the end i cleared it and thought id lost it but when i looked on the internal memory it was on the sd card along with 1st days ride but........
i can open day1 just by openinging with map source but the day2 wont open it says "it is not a valid mapsource file and cannot be opened"
Has it been corrupt??
any ideas or input would be appreciated thanks
other than that im really happy with the oregon 200 for the price $359

Hi fullthrottle
A belated welcome to the site. :hatoff
Can you post the track file/s here so we can have a look at it/them please.
You can copy the file directly off the Garmin using a file explorer or file manager program onto your computer.
Note - there are requirements for posting files on the site so have a look for them first.

Here is my first attempt at repairing your tracklog.
Is it good enough?
Somehow carriage returns had been stripped from your file.

Hi Fullthrottle,
The first attempts that I had to open your GPX file in various programs ended with the report "Error 0xC00CE55E on line 1, position 3478 Reason: element was not closed."
I see Nev has come to your rescue before I got around to finishing this post. Too many interuptions.
That was a nice long ride, was it all on roads or some cross country?

Hi fullthrottle
The error is probably intermittent.
You can see the content in english words (but computer code) by using a text editor eg notepad. I THINK that the error message that Darylr identified means that in position number 3478 (ie counting each character including spaces from the first character) there was an error.
From reading your file a full trackpoint looks like "<trkpt lat="-32.924136" lon="138.093493"><ele>337.08</ele><time>2009-07-26T00:15:29Z</time></trkpt>" You need opening statements (I'm sure there are some computer literates out there laughing at my attempt here) and corresponding closing ones for each element eg either trackpoint, elevation or time. The message seems to be saying that a closing statement is not correctly specified eg missing an / or > perhaps. ALL you have to do is find it (lotsa luck :sick3 ) and put the missing bit in or correct it.
If Nev's fix works go with it! I can't count that high!
One of my gpx tracks had a similar error but it was easy to fix as there were some non-English characters in position 20 or so. The error has not recurred.

whlie were at it... you guys might no the fix to another problem im having
when i import data from device using mapsource it says there is no tracks on device?? but if i manually look using windows explorer tracks are there (in gpx folder) and working fine either on the device or in mapsource?
and in mapsource is it possible to have 2 tracks at a time opened? say if i have "saturdays ride" opened if i click "new" and try to open "sundays ride" only sunday comes up. and as they are not transfering from the device straight into mapsource i only have 1 track open at a time in the tabs on the left.
so what i really want to do is using mapsource look at several tracks at the same time im sure i have done it before but cant work out wats goin on, i know i can do it on the device.
thanks again sorry for the stupid questions just trying to get my head around it all :emb

Hi Fullthrottle,
There is no such thing as a stupid question!!!!
If you are wondering how to do something then there is probably another ten people out there wondering the same thing.
When you get an answer from someone on the forum it not only helps you but also helps all the other people that haven't got around to asking the question.
When I am training people I keep telling them the only way to learn is to keep asking questions. If I don't have the answer then I will find someone that has.
Have fun with your GPS

Hi Fullthrottle,
I can't help you at the moment as my mapping computer is at the Doctors. It had a fatal heart attack last Friday and has to be replaced. Too old to just replace the motherboard. :sick3
I would have had a play and see if I could have helped with a solution.
There are other learned people on the Forum that can help.
