Legend Cx error from Mapsource to GPS

Firstly, many thanks to everyone for providing such great information and maps on this forum. It is a gold mine and a great community.

Secondly, I have tried to find the answer to this question but cannot find it here so apologies in advance if this has already been discussed.

Background
System Information:
GPS: Legend Cx , I week old with 64mg Micro flash card (shipped with it), latest firmware loaded
Computer : Almost new IBM thinkpad
Software:
Mapsource Trip and waypoint manager V6.0 i.e the basic software shipped with the GPS
Tracks4Australia V1.20 loaded 3 days ago.


The Issue:
I can view tracks I have created on both losts of software on my laptop. I believe both mapsource and Tracks4Australia are loaded correctly.

I want to transfer some of the Track4Australia maps to my GPS.

I select the section of the map I want to transfer, it goes pink (as expected)
I then select send to device
Screen appears and finds my GPS
I select the map in the left pane (say melbourne) ensure map is ticked on the transfer screen.

I then get an error message saying that the required memory for storing maps is missing from the GPS and to check the fitting of the card. I have done this several times and it fits OK.

I have attached a screen shot of the error message.

Anyone have any suggestions?

May not be the reason for your problem. But I'd suggest that you update your Legend Cx to the latest firmware first. It's available as a download file from Garmin.

Many thanks for the suggestion, the guy at Johnny Appleseed did that when I purchased it so I reckon it should be up to date.

No harm to do it again. I managed to solve a lock out situation on my Vista Cx by reapplying the firmware. I think it basically zeros some settings on the unit and got me out of a "bad" setting I got myself in.

Looking at the error message you are getting, It may be that your Micro Flash card is corrupt. I dont know what info is stored on the card to start with, but is there an option to format :eek: the card - just a thought

I tried to find an option to do that last night, but could not find it on the GPS . It SHOULD be empty i.e. it does not have preloaded maps etc, so reformatting should not be an issue. I have posted a question to the Garmin tech support (5-7 days because they are so busy). Maybe I need to put it in one of those USB/SD card adaptors and reformat it directly on PC......

I rang Johnny Appleseed, no real help i.e. not heard of it before. Have a mate who bought one at the same time as me. Will try his card. Also will update firmware as suggested by whytoi.

I had a related problem where Mapsource would complain that there's not enough space to store 382Mb of selected maps into my Vista Cx with 482Mb (512Mb) MicroSD card. This I think came about when I used a card reader to copy, write and delete files on this microSD card. I tried reformatting the card on both Mac as well as PC without avail. Finally, I had to reformat the microSD card to FAT16 (FAT32 didn't work for some reason) and then reinstall the latest version of Vista Cx firmware before I was able to get Mapsource to work right again.

May not be the same as your but it's for your reference.

Jackaroo :DThat was the first thing I would have thought of. I would try and put it into a card reader and see what happens. Yes I would also try it in your friends GPS and try his in yours. Also I was reading something on the 60CS group about how to use a USB card reader to add the maps to the card. you could try that also. Here's the postJust connect your card reader with the memory card installed and then run MapSource. Don't have the GPS unit connected at the same time...

Choose all of your maps...

When you choose to "download to unit" it will find the microSD card in the reader and use that as its target. It will then copy the files to the card which you can then install into the GPS unit.

Works great.

Discovered the micro SD card was faulty. Replaced the 64MG card in there with a 256mg for $36 from a swap meet.(I needed the SD card that came with the micro card to be able to put my "old" card into a reader and potentially reformat) Now I will chase up Garmin re faulty card

You really should shop around
GPSOZ has Sandisk 256MB microSD cards for $32 (including postage)
