Can anyone direct me to obtain standalone gps software for Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphones (I have a HTC HD2 smartphone)?
I have tried the following:
- Copilot Live 8; Travroute informs that Copilot has left Australia.
- Destinator 9; the only 2 resellers in Australia don't deal with Destinator any longer.
- Navigator 7 is not compatible with HTC HD2.
Note the reason it needs to be standalone software is that in regional and outback Australia you are struggling to find one tower let alone 3 towers to triangulate your position.
Any help will be appreciated. :hot:

Thanks Harv1. Having a quick look on the web with your suggested options, the Twonav sounds like the ultimate solution. However both platforms do not mention map availability for Australia. I must be missing something!

Tom Tom have a great product but they don't make it available for Australia. Unfortunately Windows smartphones are losing the battle at the moment. I hope the next OS helps them catch up with the market.

It's not so much the OS in mobile phones, I believe that Australia is losing the battle!
Why did copilot pull out? Why did Destinator pull out? It is not just phones but PDA, PCs!!!!

They pulled out because their products were un-competitive. Towards the end of last year the prices were around the $250 RRP. You could buy a street navigator for that price and cheaper updates by half.
With TwoNav we will have a great product that allows both on-road and off-road maps to be used.
May not have TTS at the moment but at least the updates of such features are free and the map updates will be very competitive indeed.

Now that the most reasonable explanation I have heard to date regarding why these companies have pulled out. Thanks.
However, viewing the TwoNav website does not answer the questions one would have when determining if the product is the right one to purchase. The site lists only one reseller in Australia, Victoria (to which I have sent an enquiring email). Is there any other way I can easily source the software for a preview and pricing?

I have an HD2 running Ozexplorer V2 as of last week. Works v nicely and a step up from the old PDA and bluetooth GPS combo, but it is not routing software only moving map.Nicko is right about the cost of routing map software for win mobile. My solution was to buy a Garmin 1490T a couple of days ago (thanks for your help there Nick). For an extra $100 or so you get much more robust solution and I feel easier to use on the move.
Cheers

Yes I understand. However my plan (hope) was to replace my old PDA, GPS, Voice Recorder, rely less on my laptop for simple email/web tasks, with one device whilst upgrading to the next G network. I suppose it was a bit much to ask. :hysterica

what info is incorrect?
Who was the reseller and what price?
twonav.com.au is being built as we speak.

The reseller on the TwoNav.com site for Australia is shown as Paragliding Headquarters in Vic. A reply by email states they only sell CompeGPS, a specialized aviation software. And as they don't sell TwoNav then naturally they didn't give a price.
Yes a visit to TwoNav.com.au verifies that a website is being constructed. And yes they invite contact. But I could not find any contact detail anywhere.
Subsequently, do you have contact details for anyone here in Australia who sells TwoNav GPS software?

There is always the evil :cooldevil iPhone. I resisted getting one until a couple of months ago because they were too hyped. Having had one long enough to put it through its paces, it will do everything you indicated above and do it well (gps accuracy without A-GPS running is a bit dodgy though).
As for Garmin XT, I see it has now been discontinued. My conspiracy theory is that Garmin has a connected GPS device coming out soon that will have a subscription service attracting an annual/monthly fee and they do not want another of their products competing.

Hi A2Z - Here is a great little app to use for a voice recorder on WM. http://download.cnet.com/Note2Self/3000-2367_4-10948015.html It sends the recording to your computers inbox as an attachment. It is not expensive to buy only $5 US. I have been using it for a month now and I think it's great. Hasn't failed me yet. I think it is worth a look.

A2Z you can download the Twonav Pocket software here from this link http://www.twonav.com/?op=6&lang=0en& and if you want i can give you a copy of the turn to turn street map software i got with my twonav adventura AustraliaNQ09q2.vmap i am sure Twonav Pocket will read the same maps as the adventura has.
OK, I have download and successfully installed TwoNav to try out. So how do we proceed from here re: the maps? Thanks

I have just installed TwoNav pocket as a trial too. Gee it looks good in fullHD on my phone.... Still downloading the 1gig 3D Australia data. Apparently you can calibrate electronic paper charts (raster) within the free version of CompeGPS Land on your PC and transfer them to your phone in \TwoNavData\Maps. Ill let you know how I go but there should be some experts around these parts to help out.
Here is another thread about a member struggling with TwoNav map import on an aventure. Hope he sorted it out in the end!
http://www.gpsaustralia.net/forums/showthread.php?p=52462
I also read that the road vmaps are unit specific as per the Device ID found in settings-system-next-device ID.

I have only used Copilot Live in the past. If they (Copilot) hadn't of pulled out of Australia I would of remained ignorant of many different aspects of GPS that I did not know existed and that I am starting to slowly grasp since joining this forum.
TwoNav at this point sounds the way to go.
Notwithstanding, I am still a dinosaur when it comes to on-line payments (I trust no-one, I do however on-line banking). I want to preview, see a demo, talk to someone who knows the product before buying a product.

I am using this while I wait for TwoNav , and it is quite Ok around the metro areas. I have not as yet given it a test in the bush. My best recommend is Garmin XT which I also have installed on the HTC Touch HD works great.

For those that are after CoPilot V8 for WM and Android, I downloaded and installed to an Omnia phone, haven't had much time to play, but seems to work ok.

Interesting to see they include a map upgrade for Australia, considering they appeared to leave the Australia market, it seems that the distribution has been changed and they are selling direct to be more competitive.

Yeh, I almost got caught out tonight as I saw they are having 10% off map "Upgrades" and thought I was a day early and could have got the software plus Aust/NZ maps cheaper had I waited 24 hours. Another look at their site corrected my thinking......
£39.99 for Copilot V8 with Aust/NZ maps and £3.59 for the TTS add on.

..... no chat about ....... files that circumvents the authors copyright allowed on this site and any other issues I or the moderators deem a threat to the well being of this forum; in other words we don't want to be threatened with legal action thank you very much!

I was going to get a legit copy but tomtom at the time did not support my phone so i thought if they cant or wont keep up with the new the phones in australia we have to improvise.
There is a lot of support for IPHONE including tomtom support but there is a lot more to life than IPHONE
