Can anyone tell me how to shift/copy/transpose/upload a drawn track/path from Google Earth, to mapsource. I believe it can be done. I know how to view tracks in Google earth from Mapsource, but I wish to create my own track in GE then view it in Mapsource and finally send it to my GPS so i can follow the track.

Hi
Several options - my first suggestion is start using Garmins free Basecamp as it accepts Google Earth KMZ/KML files directly - Bascamp is the same as Mapsource in many repsects but updated for newer units and map options. If you stick with Mapsource you will have to convert the GE kmz/kml files using something like GPSBabel or GPSVisualizer, though several other kml/kmz to gpx converters around.

Another option is to get registered version of OziExplorer - has option to view google earth within the program itself - create a track and send/save in gpx format for use in most gps units.

Cheers
Greg

Firstly you cant directly view (GE free,) in OZI, but you can create a track in GE free, and save it as a KML file, Save it to your PC where you can find it. Open Ozi and hit the load button, then import the Google earth KML file. You must first load the appropriate map, to view the track. Les

Thanks Les,

I've mis interpreted "the explorers" post - was aware of the method you suggest BUT thought I was missing out on GE displaying directly!

Mike

Hi

Make sure you have the latest (registered) version of OziExplorer (http://www.oziexplorer3.com/eng/oziexplorer.html) .

Then download this INTERNET MAP FILE (http://www.oziexplorer3.com/xtras/internet_maps_mapfile_setup.exe)

Run the downloaded setup file to install the map file. It is installed in the Internet Maps folder (under the Maps folder in OziExplorer folder...normally C:\OziExplorer\Maps).

Open the "Internet Maps.map" map file in OziExplorer in the usual way (ie LOAD -> LOAD MAP FILE)

Bingo - Google Earth within OziExplorer (and also OSM, Nearmaps etc).

More info on Ozi webpage here...Internet Maps (http://www.oziexplorer3.com/eng/internet_maps.html)

Cheers
Greg

Thanks very much for that Greg, I suppose it should teach me to read the programs home page a bit more often eh?

Up to now I've been fiddling with SAS but this appears to be a bit more straight forward and its all in English (I'm not very good at Russian map names).
