View Full Version : Garmin Custom Maps - Where?

20th April 2011, 12:42 AM
I've just spent a stupid amount of time at garmin's site, trying to find where to download their "free" Garmin Custom Maps software. Been led around and around in circles. Perhaps I'm blind, but I can't find it. Then I tried emailing them to ask where I will find it, but I can't see the contact via email option, just phone numbers. Can anybody set me straight? :confused

Introducing Garmin Custom Maps a free and simple process that transforms paper and electronic maps into downloadable maps for your compatible outdoor handheld device.

..but it does require software to create a "custom map" so its not just a "process"....its just there is no Garmin software that does it.

(to avoid confusion the term "custom map" in this thread refers to custom raster maps - not custom vector maps - that is a different story).

Anyway - Garmins description of one method for creating custom maps is described here...

More explanation and a list of programs you can use listed on this page

I havent tried all the different "processes" but have used MobAc (Mobile Atlas Creator) to make maps for other units and its pretty flash - or was. Software has been cut back recently so less useful but you can get an old version here

which has more map source options than the version you can download from the MobAc website.

PS we have been through all this before here

Includes me wondering where the "program" is as well :)
