Hi All,
Probably a simple answer :blah
When I convert a waypoint I've made in Ozi to Mapsend format, on Mapsend Lite and DAST it always appears 200m SW of where it was on Ozi. :help
When I make a waypoint in Mapsend Lite or DAST and convert it to Ozi, it displays at the right position in Ozi ? :mixed-smi

??? dunno.

but try making sure ozi datum is set to wsg84 when viewin the map & setting the waypoints.

Sounds like one datum is set to ADG66 and the other to WGS84 (or GDA94)

Hello - for the record the displayed map datum "when viewin the map" will make no difference - OE converts on the fly correctly entered data - if your map is calibrated correctly you can have the display datum set to anything you like and entered data will be spot on (assuming you do the following correctly).

When entering waypoints the datum must be set to match datum of data - this may or may not be WGS84...there are many other datums - just use the right one.

Cheers
Greg

Hello - probably need more info as there are a few possibilities - you dont actually specify how you are "converting" waypoints or method you are creating them.

For starters -make sure in OE configuration (Alt+C) under GPS tab that upload/download datum is set to WGS84 (this should be default for Magellan’s)

Issue raised by helterskelter400 refers to datum of manually entered waypoints - displayed map datum is irrelevant (assuming map is calibrated correctly) as OE does conversion on the fly. If you are entering waypoints manually by clicking on screen and then editing coords make sure datum shown at top of dialogue box matches datum of data being entered (it maybe WGS84 but it could be something else). If points are plotting 200 metres out then two (4) options exist - WGS84(= Australian Geocentric Datum 94) or Australian Geodetic 84 (= AGD66)

Cheers

Greg,
I'm manually entering waypoints in Ozi on NRE maps that are calibrated in AG 1966. I've tried converting them with the converter on gpsaustralia and GPSBabel, both conversions give the same result, 200m out every time ! Upload/Download datum in Ozi is set to is WGS 84. I've tried both 66 and 84 in Ozi and still no diff. Annoying bit is that wpt's that I manually create in Mapsend and convert, appear correctly in Ozi. :confused

OK Wiggy - As mentioned in thread, somewhere along the line in the process you are currently using you have the datum set to WGS84 (or GDA94) when it should be AGD66/84 (or Aus66/84).

It is still a bit unclear what you are doing - by "manually entering waypoints" are you

1. Clicking on a spot on the map in OziExplorer and your waypoint is created?

2. as above then editing coords to match a list you have written down?

After you have created your OziExplorer waypoint file how are you converting it to Mapsend format? I dont use the gpsaustralia conversion program or gpsbabel (that much) so not sure if somewhere in here you are going wrong

Suggest after doing 1 or 2 above you just save the file as gpx format in OziExplorer and try opening in Mapsend Lite - this will remove some of the conversion steps you are currently using and make it easier for us to figure out where the error is occurring. Ensure if you are entering waypoints using method 2 thathe datum on the page where you enter coords is set to match the coords of the data you are entering. Cant think of anything else in oziExplorer that could be set wrong. get back to us after trying my suggestion (export gpx) and tell us result.
