View Full Version : BT GPSR external antenna

G'day all :hatoff

I came across in my garage an old external antenna that I had for a old Magellan XL3000 that I had and was wondering if I could salvage it.

This is the plug type. I am not sure what the exact name is, MMCX perhaps? The inner core is not a single pin, but the female socket to receive the single pin.

I have a HP GPSR which is actually a bog standard BT-308

Am I wasting my time trying to get this to work?

If not, is there a connector that would allow me to connect the external antenna to the BT GPSR external connection point? Or can I cut the existing antenna connector off and replace it with the correct connector that matched the external antenna connection.

I have tried Jaycar and **** Smith, but I think that this is out of their line.

Any assistance with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

It could be MCX! :scratchch

I do remember I'd found a place somewhere that sold all manner of specialized connectors and cables(just finding a supply of that dammned RG-174 cable was hard!!) .. but they didn't have SMB-F connectors that I wanted!

Now d'you reckon I can remember where and what it was called?
It was in my (many and varied)travels and if I ever get out to it again.. I'll be sure to ask for a business card! ;)

But I reckon, looking at the size of it.. it's certainly an MCX?

It's either a MCX or SMB-M but I would bet it's an SMB-M as it was used with an old Magellan. Click on the link below and tell me. Anything on the Gilsson web site I can supply :)

Globalsat either take MCX or MMCX only.
