Revolution hey! maybe a personal one

Mate thats not a "power system specialy built for car punishment" Its an industrial PC card. Nothing new.

I ran a similar system for years. I now run a laptop based system with the LCD removed. I would recommend the laptop any day compared to the amount of work involved in getting a industrial PC running an housed properly.

hard shutting down your system WILL break it eventually. Its not hard to do it properly with a shutdown controller

A great effort and a lot of work! Have fun with your projects - I do!
Just went to my van and took a photo of my VERY simple setup in our HiAce camper. Runs from the 12V auxilliary battery with no issues. Current draw 1.8A. Original power supply 19V.
The 14" acer 750mHz notebook is now worth perhaps $200? Travelled some 85000kms around Australia (2003-2006) and now here in NZ for another 20000km and it has performed faultlessly.
It sits on a piece of MDF panel jammed beneath our laid flat middle “jump seat" and the front end is resting on the ash tray.
Runs Garmin, OziExplorer and many other GPS programs without any issues.
It is simply connected to a Bluetooth GPS permanently wired in the glove box and a wireless mouse.
