unlock Mio C520

help i have a Mio C520 with preinstalled aus map, i just bought a map of europe from a european seller, when i install the SD europe map card it tells me that map is locked, seller tels me that GPS need to be unlocked ??? can anybody help me with this in a very simple way leo

Unlocking the C520 is only necessary if you want it to use as a PDA as well as PNA.
As far as unlocking the map...I've put this question on a belgian Mio forum.
I own a Mio 168 PDA (build in GPS) but don't know nothing about a C520.
As soon (íf I get an answer) as I know more I will get back.

well, had a quick response to my question.

I'm afraid you won't be so happy with it.
The answer (given by one of the moderators on the other forum) is:
"You have to buy the maps you need in the country you've bought your Mio."

Apparently the Mitac C520 has a build-in safety feature that allows the system only to work with maps, coded in a certain way.

Keep in mind that the forum I asked the question on is a dedicated Mitac forum, but not related to the company.

I assume hacks will be possible but will not be passed on by the forum as they don't want to support illegal activities.

I have the same issue. I bought a brand new C520 from ebay US/Canada version. Maps preinstalled also on CD, no SD card.

Silly me, I thought I could just buy the Australian maps on SD and swap them out. Got given a couple of Australian maps for MioMap, even found some on the net. No I gotta try and order Australian Maps off somewhere in the States.

Overall, despite the hassle, it's probably still going to be cheaper than buying the Australian C520 version. I got mine for AUD301.95, and that was with the USD 39.95 shipping.

I've downloaded the PDA hack, I may have to download a different map system and use that on the hacked C520 using it as a PDA GPS or such.

Pretty freaking silly of them to "Code" a GPS like that.

Did you find a solution or did you decide to run a different mapping system in PDA mode?

If so what are you using? I am off to the UK in a few weeks and I am facing a similar problem and seeking solutions.

all you need is the correct license.txt on the SD card corresponding to the miomap.exe software.... i.e. if you have an aussie bought device you should be able to purchase legally maps from any other country that runs the same version/build of the miomap.exe as the license.txt file will be on the SD card. The US runs a different version.

alternatively - just hack it with the cracked miomap.exe use the demo license file and you get access to every map in the world basically.
