G'day everyone;

I recently purchased City Nav Maps thru GPSoz on CD which arrived a couple of days ago, initialy had some issues unlocking maps thru Mapsource , but after a little bit of fiddling around I managed to unlock CN with the Purchasing code provided ,and thru mapsource successfully uploaded them to garmin 60CSx , I know everyone likes Free maps , but i chose to go down this path , hopefully if there are any updates I'd be able to download the updates without having to pay Premium price $$$

Now what I also found out is that I've had to set aside 1 x 2GB MicroSD for all of CityNav , Shonky etc and a seperate 2GB MicroSD for Oztopo V2.

So Far my impression of City Nav has been excellent.

cheers

Khos

I have all of Australia with city nav and shonky in one img file and it's around 380mb. Not sure why you need cards that big ?

Problem arises with OzTopoV2 Contours - according to my calculations space required by entire map sets are
City navigator 2008 - 152mb
Shonky Full Topo - 191mb
OztopoV2 Roads only - 324mb
OztopoV2 10m Contours only - 1592mb!!

You would only need ~700mb capacity if you didnt want the detailed contours other wise you are looking at ~2300mb hence requirement for 2 memory cards, unless they make 4Gb micros?

Cheers

I've been told Garmin 60CSx will not recognise a MicroSD card larger that 2GB in size ? someone may be able to verify if this is true/not?

also as explained by explorer all oztopo v2 10 m Contours + roads totals to 1916 MB so there won't be enought capacity for CityNav on the same card.

hence purchase of extra card and since the cards are relatively cheap I purchased a 2GB.

according to GPS Cardinfo City Navigator and Shonkey
takes up 539.64MB so only leaves 1396.9MB .

Some Garmin GPS WILL take cards bigger then 2Gb. It depends on the firmware and the GPS. An example is the 60Cx/CSx. I read people have used 6Gb cards in them with no problems. On Garmin GPS's there is a limit on how many maps you can put on the GPS. For memory it's 2100 maps or 2Gb of maps.

I've got to ask a question. Why do people insist on put all of Australia on there GPS? I could understand it if you where traveling around Australia. But if where living and just traveling around say SE QLD only, why load the rest of Australia if your never going to use them?

I agree with you on this issue ,I am planning on travelling around oz in the not too distant future so this is probably the reason why i uploaded up all of oztopo V2 onto 1 micro SD card and city Nav and Shonkey on a different card.

However I do see your point with regards to loading too many unecessary maps onto one card if it means that it will not be used at all ,there has to be a downturn on the GPS performance as well having too many maps loaded into the same card as well, I have noticed this . I think I have to work out what maps I need only and upload what's required vs how much I can try and fit onto 1 card.

thanks for the advice.
