Hi to all.

Picked up my Triton 400 yesterday and I have some questions/observations.

1. The power/pc connection are now separate. Does this mean that I cant use moving maps/ trip recording? This is very handy for geocaching.

2. How do I change the date?

3. Is there a quick way to load a waypoint? On the Meridian Gold I held down the GOTO button, doing that with the Triton just scrolls through the pages.

4. Is there a trick to setting up the cradle for the car? I cant get the connection into the right spot in the back of the cradle. Wants to point down instead of flat. (Not explained well)

5. The back cover doesn't seem to fit back properly. Even the store couldn't get it to sit properly.
Explorist

6. The instructions for loading the maps onto the computer are not for the Triton. I assume that I use the Explorist instructions? Then I couldn't get the PC to read the Readme file.

Will have to spend some more time on it today.

Thanks in advance.

Glenn

Power is supplied via USB when connected to PC. On eXplorist (which had "combined" power/usb) there ws never any need to connect car power coord when running moving map on laptop as it provides power...the power cord is only needed when NOT connected to PC. Meridians required both as power was not supplied through the serial cable.

2. How do I change the date?
.

Time zones are selected in the PROFILES menu. select the right time zone for your area and date will automatically be corrected.

3. Is there a quick way to load a waypoint?

I dont have Triton with me at moment but I think if you press and hold the enter button a waypoint is created at cursor position - check and see.

5. The back cover doesn't seem to fit back properly.
..

Difficult to solve that one from here. Are the batteries inserted properly? They are a tight fit and if not pushed in all the way will prevent cover closing properly.

..

What instructions for loading what maps from where? Are you using VantagePoint (VP)? - Do you mean the basemap and/or DAST Topo? To load maps (already on the GPS or PC) open VP click on library tab, click on Browse and then click Add Map or Add Background map from GPS. I dont have DAST Topo so not sure if you have to have it in the GPS or in a card reader to view on PC via VP.

Problem 7
When I'm trying to enter a Longitude it wont go to the letter E on the keyboard. Quite happy to go to W, but not E. I Have fluked it a couple of times but there doesn't seem to be logic to it.

A few minutes later....
I have found that if you over type the numbers the E doesn't disappear but if you clear the coords I cant get to the E.

Thanks Explorer

1 Means having to have 2 cables in the car, and connecting a different one if the laptop isn't in the car to other times

2. Dates/Time - bit of a pain to have to change all the profiles

3. Will check.

6. I bought the value pack. Comes with Discover Aus Topo. Finally got the PDF file to work and says I need to download a file. Will keep at it.

Thanks for your help again

Probably wont be any sort of an issue considering what I read here

http://www.magellan.com.au/Pages/Support.aspx?BrandName=Magellan

i.e.

Q: Can i use Triton for Real Time moving map?

A: At this time the NMEA protocols of the triton do not function however they are in the unit and will be available in Free future firmware updates.

When time comes that you can use Triton for moving map you could just get generic cig lighter power/USB plug and use the standard usb cable (that will slot into plug) for power or laptop as needed

2. Dates/Time - bit of a pain to have to change all the profiles

Everybody has different pain thresholds:) You only have to do it once and then only on the profiles you generally use. Price you pay for ability to customise, though I agree - it should be in a section of its own and be universal for all profiles

Have Fun

Ok its Saturday so have some time to spend on this.

Progress has been made:

1. Have downloaded Vantage Point and connected gps and pc together and got latest version of firmware. When running VP the triton says "Connected to Vantage point" but I cant do anything with the GPS.

Also there doesn't seem to be any way of doing anything with the gps in VP.

Am I missing something basic?

2. When I disconnect from VP the settings on the gps are set back to factory settings.

3. Still frequently locks up and only removing battery will reset it.

I guess its only been a week but this is not intuitive. (for me anyway)

Hello
VP lets you upload and download data (waypoints/tracks/routes and maps) from GPS to PC and visa versa. You will obviously need to have data to play with before you can upload or download it...so maybe thats why you couldn't do "anything".

It is also the only way to download and install firmware upgrades (as you know).

There is a user manual here and a few FAQ's which may get you going

http://www.magellangps.com/support/product.asp?prodid=1903

Cant help with the other issues you are having.

Thanks Greg,

I've uploaded my geocaches (gpx file) to VP and then to 400.

Is there any time frame as to when the moving map (on PC) will be available?

No idea - keep an eye on these dedicated Triton forums - they may spill the beans first
