Yea i had this exact problem with my own (unhelpful) POI Loader, what i did was creat a folder for my POI folders inside the Garmin Folder in your actual gps memory, then just drag the .gpi files inside the newly created folder (i think the folders called POI or Custom POI or something) worked for me!

Just purchased the Garmin Nuvi 260 and did just that - create a folder called "POI" within the Garmin folder. Of note, the instructions on the Garmin website (at the POI Loader download screen) states clearly that the POI folder is on by default within the Garmin folder but this wasn't the case for me. My maps don't seem to have the red light/speed camera/school zones.....
I've just used Winrar to obtain the required .gpi files - do they have to be in an actual POI folder or just within the Garmin folder? Should they be in .gpx format as opposed to .gpi??? :help
