Hi,
I've narrowed down to these two GPS models.
Uniden 350
Garmin nuvi 255

If you own either of them then could you please inform if your GPS device has
1. Spoken alert for saftey/red light camera
2. Spoken alert for overspeeding
3. Lane assist

I couldn't figure out from the manuals of either of them.

Many Thanks for your help,
Tejas.

Have a read of these two reviews :)

or my earlier post (http://www.gpsaustralia.net/forums/showpost.php?p=38654&postcount=2) in answer to your questions

Not perfect, but the reviews answer some of your specific questions.

The iGO8 Manual (http://www.gpsaustralia.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1851) answers 100% of your questions wrt to iGO8 :)

Hi,

Maybe this could help as well:

The C-Net review of the Uniden Trax 350:

http://www.cnet.com.au/cartech/gps/0,2000438599,339290222,00.htm

and the link tot the Nuvi 255, no review, but you can compare the specifications of both models...

I hope it helps!

Kind regards,

Thanks Guys,

I've gone through the manuals.

Uniden Trax 350:
1. Speech warning for overspeeding.
2. Beeps when approaching speed camera
3. Special alter when car speed is more than allowed at speed camera. Is this a speech warning?

Garmin nuvi 255:
Didn't mention anywhere if it was a speech alter or just beep for red light camera and overspeeding.

JA is selling Nuvi 255 for 279 and **** smith is selling Nuvi 310 for 278. Which one would you go for?

Many Thanks.
Tejas.

From the iGO8 manual.

However if you are speeding and you have the speed alert at 100%, the 'Warn when Speeding' function kicks in and you'll receive a voice warning.

And that's the way it works in real life :)

I have played with the Uniden 350 for a little while and confirm from 1st hand experience..

1. Speed Cameras (on there own are a beep). You can select to have the beep set always or only when you are over the speed limit. But combined with option 2 below you would get the voice alert.

2. Yes - if you are over the speed linit it will display the icon with the speed limit and it will say you are over the limit. In the setting you can set the thresholds for this for metro & regional. i.e. you can set metro @ say 105% and regional @ sat 110% (however you please).

3. Lane assist - yes you get this when you come up to a turn on a major road. Works a treat.

Hi,

Many thanks to everyone who helped out. I went for Uniden Trax 430 over Garmin 255. I bought it for $287 at Good Guys in High Point VIC.

I went to JA shop at St Kilda and found that Garmin would proivde a speech alert or sound alert based on POI uploaded. JA provide some POI updates to their customers based on data they collected/bought/downloaded from somewhere but he didn't really know if they would provide speech alerts for red light/speed cameras. He said that Garmin would simply display the allowed speed limit of the current road but would not generate an audible alert if you're overspeeding. It didn't provide lane assist as well + the ability to save POI by saving cursor points.

I wonder if I need to download any POI or they will come out of the box in Uniden 430.

Many Thanks,
Tejas.

Australian POI will be in the box.

Be aware that any of the iGO skins that support 480x272 can be used on your Trax and will customise the screen enormously.

I help update this one and use it on my Trax 350
