So I get a new computer and find that the thing only has usb ports, the connector for the meridian is some giant plug thingo, can I get an adaptor somewhere that can be used in a usb port?

Yep!

USB to Serial adapter.

This (http://www.gpsaustralia.net/forums/showthread.php?t=916) has important info on what to look out for.

Any adapter that looks like Festy's should be avoided!

I got mine at my local Jaycar store and have never had a problem with it. Jaycar catalogue #XC4834. **** Smith or Tandy should have them as well.

thanks heaps guys!
went to tricky ****ies and they wanted 80 bucks!
so it was off to jaycar and picked up one for 30 instead and it works!
I'll havea shed load of questions now!
