I found a Garmin II+ on the dashboard worked OK, in most places. Heavy
trees upset it a bit.
An external antenna on the bonnet helped a bit, not a big change.
Not worth the $$ for mine.

I get to design chips. Silcon ones.
Its one line at a unix or cygwin shell
eg

The jaycar adaptors are prolific chipsets, seem to work fine.
I got several $4.50 adaptors from China via Ebay - they work fine too.
Thats $10 each inc postage.

Some older usb-serial adaptors have a deparate need for hardware handshake
signals. They don't do anything without them.
To use one without handshake (which is not needed at GPS baud rates)...
This all seems a quite a bit more technical than is needed here.
RS232 drivers are tough, can drive lots of wire at 19k2 at least.

for those under windows, you...

with oziexplorer once I got the paths right in the map files.
To speed things up on the mosaic maps on...
The mouse is not used that much. We have got the control-s control-t down pat now to start up the gps interface and a track, so the mouse is just used to :
o turn off moving map, drag drag maps...
Out of interest, how much of a problem are fingerprints on the screen? I hate people touching my monitor.
also I'd be a bit concerned about poking a finger thru the front of the LCD when

Hi
in case its useful for others
I tend to use oziexplorer in a landcruiser. selecting maps, generally driving the program menus using the mouse when bouncing around offroad is a challenge.

Hi
I agree that converting to ozf2 or ozf3 is an excellent idea particularly for older hardware. I've been doing that. Has anyone succeeded in converting the landsat7 image file? I get file-to-big...
