Thread: Garmin IMG to Oziexplorer guide

  1. Smile Garmin IMG to Oziexplorer guide

    Hi all,

Can someone point me in the right direction to convert Garmin IMG's to a decent sized Oziexplorer file. I have been trying to convert Shonky's maps to 1:25000 with GPSmapedit but because they output it as a bmp I end up getting a 1.5Gb bmp .

I want to convert 80045610, 80045614 and 80045615 of north Brisbane and beerburrum so I can then convert it to ozf3 files for OziexplorerCE to do some dirt bike riding around the inlaw's place. There are a lot of tracks in that area and I wouldn't mind finding my way home after a full day of riding lol.

I'm not too keen on buying digital maps for this area yet as I'm not sure what the quality will be like. I have trialled GPSvp and PTGmap which use IMG files but IMO ozi is a much better choice.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Why not download free 250K raster maps from
    https://www.ga.gov.au/products/servl...EFINE_PRODUCTS

A search of this forum will find more detailed maps for your area.

  3. Hey Neville,

Thanks for the quick reply. I just downloaded all the Brissy ones but it looks like the detail isn't there.

I'll just have to keep looking.

Here is a part OziExplorer screenshot of 80045610 in ECW format. The entire image at this scale is 38MB.

  5. Hey Nev,

    Thanks for your help.

Now how did you convert it to ECW. I haven't found a good way of doing it yet.

So far what I have done is open the IMG in GPSmapedit, convert the file to to an oziexplorer file (had to keep the file size below 4-500Mb so it is easier to convert, unfortunatly you can loose the contour lines which is one thing I would like) and then to I used IMG2OZF to get it to a ozf3 for oziCE (file size is now very small, comparable to the original IMG).

    Cheers

I use ER Mapper to convert the GPSMapEdit BMP images to ECW.
ECW Compressor can convert BMP (less than 500MB) to ECW format. It was freeware but no longer available on their website.
I have uploaded a copy to here.

If you have Irfanview (freeware) then you can convert between every format you can think of. Also ECW

Thanks, I had (almost) forgotten about Irfanview certainly a "must have" program along with my favourite freebie XnView for graphic editing, viewing and conversion.

    You guys are champs

Thanks for the help. I will start doing them tonight. If Shonky says it's ok I will rapidshare the ozf3 files so people using oziCE can easily use the files.

    Cheers guys.
